This year I have decided to challenge myself by doing something fresh and exciting. It is called DISH A DAY

 

Each day I will be creating a new dish and posted it up for you guys to enjoy. Together we can share in my experience and passion. Are you guys excited cause I am. Let’s get started.

Durban Crab Curry

NOTE: This is a great recipe to play around with quantities, depends on your usage and heat preferences. Taste even better the next day. Make ahead if possible

 

For basic masala: Roast ground spice separately in a pan- Chilli powder, Coriander, Cumin, Garam masala, fennel/ Soomph, Turmeric powder, Cardamon, Cinnamon. Blend and store in airtight container.

Seeds, curry leaves and bay leaf optional.


Ingredients

1kg cleaned crab

Cooking oil of your choice

3 large garlic minced

2 tbsp masala (add more or less)

1 onion chopped

Curry leaves

Chopped fresh coriander

4 green chillies slit in halves

2 cups tomato blended

2 tsp chilli powder (Kashmiri or Rustenburg)

1 tsp tamarind

¼ cup warm water

Salt

Method

Clean and wash crab. Crack shells a bit to allow seeping in of flavour. Rub some masala mix into crab. set aside

Heat oil add garlic to braise next add crab and fry followed by masala and chilli powder.

Add onion, curry leaves, green chillies

Mix in tomato. Allow to simmer,

Mix tamarind with warm water and add to pot. Remove pulp if preferred.

Add salt to taste and finish off with coriander garnish
